Difficult to collect plants: a manual for weed spotters
Some plant groups present special difficulties, including size, accessibility, prickles, moisture content and problems with drying. Some of these groups are treated in this publication. Fungi and algae require specialist knowledge and equipment and are not treated here. For more information on how to collect any of these groups, please contact your state herbarium.
This manual is designed to be used as an extension to the Weeds CRC's weed collector's manual 'Collect, prepare and preserve weed specimens' which you will find below.

With herbicide resistance a growing concern in Australia’s cropping
industries, the IWM manual describes a broad range of chemical and
nonchemical tactics for weed management aimed at reducing the weed
seedbank and also reliance on herbicides.
The manual is largely written for farm advisors with contributions from
some of Australia’s leading weed scientists.

Australian Weed Management: Biocontrol
This vocational education and training resource provides an
overview of weed biological control methods used in Australia
(with an emphasis on classical biological control). The PowerPoint
slides, teacher notes and workbook are presented in three
parts;
i) history of biological control in Australia;
ii) maintaining biological cultures; and
ii) releasing biological control agents for weed management.

This resource provides a guide to the process of collecting,
preparing and preserving weed specimens for recording or identification
purposes.

Introductory Weed Management Manual
This manual has been prepared as a training aid for the
use of private landholders, conservation groups, catchment
management groups, local, state and territory governments
and industry. It is an introductory guide for those with little
experience with weed management, particularly environmental
weeds. It is also an excellent extension resource for those
who need to develop the weed management capacity of others.
Modules 1, 2 and 3 of this manual are suitable VET sector
training resource for selected unit elements and performance
criteria of a number of competency units: These include RTC1801A
Prepare for work; RTC1701A Follow basic safety rules; RTC2016A
Recognise plants; RTC2401A Treat weeds; RTD2004A Collect,
prepare and preserve plant specimens; RTC3218A Undertake a

Blackberry: an identification tool to introduced and native
Rubus in Australia

Blackberry (Rubus) species are a significant weed of agriculture,
forestry and natural ecosystems in southern and eastern Australia.
This CD ROM contains an introduction, tutorial and two identification
keys that enable the identification of all species of Rubus
known to occur in Australia. Each species has a factsheet
with information and images, together with links to further
information available on the internet and Australias
Virtual Herbarium for up-to-date distribution maps. Also included
is a list of all Rubus species names, background to their
classification, a glossary, instructions on collecting specimens
for identification and information on the use of rusts as
biocontrol agents in Australia.

Crop weeds of Australia

Crop Weeds of Australia is an educational tool designed to assist
in teaching and learning the principles and practice of plant
identification. It has been developed to assist students in
agriculture-related tertiary courses, but can also be used by
secondary school and TAFE students. The key includes about 150
species of weeds commonly found in Australia's cropping systems
and covers all of the major cropping areas from tropical to
sub-tropical and temperate.

Misbehaving Plants
Misbehaving plants is a big book with
an introduction to weeds, a narrative
story, a cartoon strip and factual
information describing weeds.
This resource was developed in
consultation with experienced lower
primary / infants teachers.
While the book was developed for early
stage teachers, the content and lesson
activities suit a range of abilities,
making this book appropriate for all
primary classrooms.

Ghastly Guests: Upper primary unit of work investigating
weeds is a great resource for upper primary teachers nationwide.
The unit includes suggested lesson activities with accompanying

Weed Wipeout is an interactive computer game
developed by the Weeds CRC to provide a fun and enjoyable
way to learn about weed management. As a Weed Wipeout player
youll be managing a farm ravaged by weeds. Youll
need to make lots of decisions about the most appropriate
weed management strategies for the farm youre managing.
Plenty of unexpected events occur, keeping the job challenging,
fun and interesting!
